Skolans hjärna eller verksamhet på undantag? En studie av skolbibliotekets status sett i ett organisatoriskt perspektiv

This study is an attempt to shed light on problems and possibilities of the School library of the Swedish comprehensive school concerning library law and goals of the school and the School library. Many investigations about the role of the School library of the comprehensive school have been carried through. They have all more or less come to the same conclusions. In spite of Swedish library law and goal documents of the School library, the school libraries are often neglected, if not will and commitment are to be found among teachers. Using a model of the school organisation by Gunnar Berg, three cases of school libraries are presented and analysed in a larger organisational and political perspective.

The subject of this master thesis is the School library and how we find its potential unutilized. We look at this problem in connection to the democratic assignment that the Swedish school has. The purpose is to elucidate what the democratic assignment consists of and to establish the role that the School library ought to have in this assignment. To describe the democratic assignment we examine and interpret the documents that regulate school and library activities today, including UNESCO/IFLA School library Manifesto and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We use critical ideology analysis because we consider democracy to be a sort of ideology and have a critical view of how the School library is used or rather not used in school.

Elevers uppfattning och användning av sitt skolbibliotek i en invandrartät gymnasieskola

This thesis examines the perception and use of the School library for students at an Upper Secondary School. The school has a high frequent of immigrant students, and the students interviewed all have an immigrant background. The intention was to find out how the students used the School library and what perception they have of the School library. The method used was semi-structured interviews with eight students, both males and females, who studies different educational programs. The instrument of theory was that from Elisabeth Tallaksen Rafste?s theoretical framework.

I have examined the questions - Whats to say about school libraries in the curriculum and the library law? - Who administer the honour "School library of the year" and whats demanded to get it? - What have made the school libraries I have examined to school libraries of the year"? As theory I have used the Taxonomies of the School library Media Program by David V. Loertscher. I have given a background to and defined the School library as a function, a room and in the teaching among others.

Söka, sovra, läsa, lära : om ett gymnasiebibliotek som pedagogiskt hjälpmedel

This is a thesis about an upper secondary  School library and its role as a pedagogkal resour­ce. My purpose has been to find out about the views and experiences of the staff at the School library and twelve teachers at the upper secondary school  conceming the School library as a pedagogical resource. Fourteen  qualitative interviews have been accomplished, twelve  with teachers and the rest with the staff of the School library. All the interviewees seem to think that their School library has an important function as a pedagogical resource and both the librarian and the teachers have given me some examples of occasions when the library has been used as a pedagogkal resource. This School library is mostly used as a complement to other pedagogical resources but for some longer projects with an investigative character it could sometimes be used as the main source according to the answers in these fourteen  interviews..

Vad vill vi med vårt skolbibliotek? En undersökning av attityder till skolbiblioteket bland skolledare och lärare

The purpose of this study is to examine teachers and school-leaders attitude to the School library. Both the cause of and the consequences of these attitudes are examined. In order to fulfil my purpose I have examined this through both literature and empirical studies. I have interviewed the headmaster, the school librarian and two teachers at two comprehensive schools. As theoretical framework I have used David Loertschers taxonomy containing theories about the levels in an ideal School library and Miles model of school development.

Att datorisera ett bibliotek: datoriseringen av skolbiblioteket på Sunnerbogymnasiet i Ljungby

The purpose of this paper is to describe methods to computerize a library and to compare theory with a process in a School library. The case study is based on a School library called Sunnerbogymnasiet which is situated in Ljungby. My questions are;- Which methods are parts of the process to computerize a library?- Which methods are used in the process in Sunnerbogymnasiet?- What does the practical process look like compared to the methods described in theory?In the paper I present the methods in the process according to the studied literature and compare these with a process at Sunnerbogymnasiet. The most significant result is that cooperation between the School library and the community library was the most important reason for the choice of library computer system.

A qualitative study of high school student teachers' ideas about libraries and school libraries.Interviews have been conducted with future teachers about the library's role in their education,their views on library functions in high school and whether they as teachers will use theSchool library. The results show that the students have had some instruction concerninghow to use the library as students, but very little as regards their future teaching. The professorsof teacher education focus on the fact that the library should be used in high schoolteaching, not how to use it. Despite this, the student teachers look very positively upon libraries.Libraries play an important part in their education and they are all sure that they asteachers will use the School library, which includes interacting with the librarian. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the importance of the School library in a selected junior high school. My investigation is based on both theoretical and empirical studies. The aim of the theoretical part is to create a platform and refer to thoughts, roles and laws concerning the activity of the School library. The empirical investigation consists of two parts: questionnaires among students and teachers, plus interviews with students, teachers, headmaster, school librarian and the management of education. Everybody shows a positive attitude towards the School library and considers it important for the students exams.

The purpose of this bachelor?s thesis is to examine what attitudes the administrators of the selected elementary schools have towards School library media centers in general but also towards their own respective library media centers. Furthermore, it is to examine the administrators? views on their school librarian?s role in the library media center as well as an integrated part of the school activities. A branch in this purpose is to examine if there is any differences in staffing the library media centers with a library media specialist or a teacher-librarian.

Projects to equip every student and teacher with a laptop, with the intention to improve academic results, have rapidly spread through the country. New technology, new contents and new ways of learning have changed the learning envi-ronment. The School library, being a part of this environ-ment, faces the same changes and challenges.The purpose of this thesis is to study how the School library is being affected when a One-to-One project is carried out in a learning environment. The research questions concern how the School library is viewed within the organization and also how the change affects both the School library and the school librarian.The empirical material of the thesis includes five qualitative interviews carried out on location, at a single selected school. The interviews are followed by a study of relevant documents, all produced within the organization.To understand the organization in which the School library operates, as well as the School library itself, I chose to divide the theoretical approach in two: Christensen?s et al.

Avstånd och användning : en jämförande studie av lärares använding av skolbibliotek i undervisningen

The purpose of this Master thesis is to examine whether there is a connection between distance to the schoollibrary and the extent to which teachers are using it as an integral part of their teaching. The study aims to answerif the physical distance to the School library is affecting teachers' ways of working with the library, if it affects thecollaboration between teachers and librarians and finally if teachers that are using a School library outside theschool premises are doing so less as an integral part of their teaching compared to teachers that have access to aSchool library within the schools premises.The study is based on qualitative interviews with six teachers in the intermediate stage of the nine-yearcompulsory school, of which three have access to a School library within the school premises and three haveaccess to a School library outside the school premises. The two groups of teachers are compared in order to findout if there is a connection between distance to the School library and the usage of it. Loertscher's School librarymedia program and teacher taxonomy have been used as a theoretical framework.The study shows that the teachers who use a School library within the school premises have a bettercollaboration with the librarians than the ones who use a School library outside the school premises. The studyalso show that theese libraries are an integral part of the teaching to a higher degree.

In July 2011, new regulations regarding school libraries came into effect through a new education act for Swedish schools. The wording of the Act has been the basis of much discussion in which the concepts of "School library" and "access" makes it difficult to build consensus among different parties, why this can cause difficulties in ultimately construct equal access to School library. The purpose of this survey is to examine the interpretations and practices that exist around the School library and its functions among primary school principals. The principals have been selected on the basis that they themselves (the schools) already indicated that they do not have access to their own School library within the school premises. As a theoretical starting point, I used the School library researcher David Loertscher?s taxonomy for school leaders.

På väg att bli vuxen: unga flickors upplevelser och uppfattningar om bibliotek

The purpose of this Masters thesis has been to examine the importance of libraries for girls leisure time in secondary school. Focus has been on the use of the library as a leisure activity. Interviews were carried out with six girls of the ages 13 to 16. The conclusion of the study is that the library is of importance for the girls mostly through its books. Reading turned out to be an important leisure activity for the girls and the books provided by the library were of significance for their identity development.
